Often considered the most suburban area of the City of Boston, West Roxbury is mostly known for its single-family homes. West Roxbury was annexed by Boston in 1874; previously, it was part of the Town of Roxbury. It is bordered by Roslindale to the northeast, Dedham to the east and south and Brookline and Newton to the west.
Centre Street is West Roxbury’s main commercial area and features many restaurants and stores. Millennium Park is one of the most popular places for residents. It consists of 100 acres of land, which include walking trails and large fields for soccer and other sports. Millennium Park is also a favorite spot for picnics.
West Roxbury is served by three stations that are part of the MBTA Commuter Rail Needham Branch. These stations are West Roxbury, Bellevue and Highland. The area is also served by multiple MBTA bus routes.
These days, West Roxbury is seeing an increasing amount of development. Several new condominium and apartment buildings are planned for the area and will be completed in the next few years.
